WATERTOWN, Wisc. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men's volleyball team returned to the win column as they went on the road to sweep a same-day doubleheader against NCAA Division III opponent Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday (March 12). The Pomeroys swept the first match 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-18) and came back with another sweep in the second match (25-11, 25-8, 25-11).
The Pomeroys improved to 13-8 on the season with the victories.
In the first match,
Bentley Meyer &
Marko Zolnjan led the way with seven kills a piece. Jacob Wisnieski led the team with 16 set assists while
Connor Orrock added 10. The Pomeroys were credited with 10 service aces in the contest, including a game-high three from
Christian Green.
Joey Anderson had the lone solo block in the contest. Meyer also led the way with 10 digs in the contest.
SMWC recorded a hitting percentage of .400 in both the first and third sets on the contest. They held a 40-15 edge in kills, a 10-3 advantage in service aces and a 37-26 cushion in digging out the opponent's attacks.
In the second match, Andrej Linder led the way with seven kills as the team recorded a hitting percentage of .397.
Ethan Martins added 10 set assists while Orrock posted nine.
Manase Fetulimoeata added six digs while
Brayden Baxter also posted six. Linder was credited with six service aces in the victory while also adding six digs. The Pomeroys posted 18 service aces in the match and a total of 28 over the course of the doubleheader.
The Pomeroys return home to take on Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Mount Vernon Nazarine University (Ohio) on Friday, March 15 inside the Knoerle Center before coming back against the same opponent on Saturday. First serve on Friday is set for 7 pm (ET) while the action begins on Saturday at 3 pm (ET).
