Pomeroy Softball Falls Twice To Saint Xavier (Ill.)

ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Pomeroy softball team battled No. 26 Saint Xavier (Ill.) twice on Wednesday afternoon at the SMWC Softball Field before falling 3-1 in the opening game and 4-3 in the second contest.

SMWC's record moved to 16-10 on the season while St. Xavier is now 12-8.

In the nightcap, the Woods got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Lyric Krause singled to score Abbi Henderson for the quick 1-0 advantage. That's the way the score remained until the bottom of the fourth inning when Jaselyn Conn connected on a double to center field before a RBI single from Lyric Krause drove her in with a single to right field for the 2-0 advantage.

SXU got a run back in the top of the fifth inning, but Henderson reached on a double to left field to score Annika Hannigan to restore the two run lead at 3-1. SXU would score three times in the top of the sixth inning to pull out the 4-3 victory.

Lyric Krause was 2-of-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI. Summa Rocha took the loss giving up four runs, only one of them earned.

In the first game, St. Xavier plated a run in the top of third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Woods had runners in scoring position and finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning when Naveah Pender singled to plate Jaliegh Crawford to get within 2-1. That would be the only score they could muster and SXU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to earn the 3-1 victory.

Offensively, Crawford went 2-of-3 at the plate and scored the only run of the contest for the Pomeroys. Justyce Rohrabaugh and Jaselyn Conn tallied stolen bases in the contest.
Marin Jacobs went the distance pitching the full seven innings, allowing two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods returns to action on Friday, March 27 when they travel to Point Park (Pa.) for a pair of River States Conference games beginning at 3 pm (ET).
