ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The St. Mary-of-the-Woods softball earned a River States Conference doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon against visiting IU-Southeast. While IU-Southeast took the first contest 6-0, the Pomeroys came back in game number two to win 10-1 in five innings.
The Pomeroys are now 21-12 and 14-5 inside RSC play. IU-Southeast are now 25-12 (19-3 RSC).
In the day's second game, the Pomeroys jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Jaselyn Conn recorded a sacrifice fly to score Jasmine Kinzer and then Abbi Henderson created havoc on the base paths by stealing third and then coming home to score on an error.
IU-Southeast got a run back in the game's second inning before Ruby Gray singled to score Naveah Pender for the 3-1 lead. Kinzer then recorded a sacrifice fly which scored Hannigan for the 4-1 lead. In the third inning, Lyric Krause scored Henderson with a RBI single before Krause scored on a wild pitch for the 5-1 advantage. Hannigan recorded a two RBI double to score Pender and Jaliegh Crawford for the 8-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Conn drove home Kinzer and then Henderson scored her third run of the game as went across the plate on a wild pitch for the 10-1 victory.
Summer Rocha picked up the win by scattering four hits over three innings and allowing one run to score. Emily Fitzwater came in for the final two innings of work and allowed no hits.
The Pomeroys recorded five stolen bases is the victory over IU-Southeast.
In the opening game, the Pomeroys scratched together three hits including a pair from Jasmine Kinzer. Marin Jacobs fell to 8-6 on the season by allowing eight hits while striking our four in seven innings of work.
