TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team opened the 2024 campaign at NCAA Division I and cross-town opponent Indiana State on Thursday night. The Sycamores were able to take down SMWC by the score of 10-0 in the season opener for both squads.
The Pomeroys enjoyed a tremendous crowd in the season opener on what turned out to be a beautiful night for soccer. Hundreds of local youth soccer players attended the game to support both teams as well as a large contingent of SMWC student-athletes from a variety of sports were on hand.
Indiana State opened the scoring a little over three minutes into the contest with a goal and didn't look back leading 4-0 at the half and extending the lead after the break.
The Pomeroys did record a first half corner kick. Goalkeeper
Lauren Rindone finished the contest with 13 saves. She entered the contest with only nine saves in her career through three previous matches of play.
SMWC continues the fall season when they travel to Huntington (Ind.) on Tuesday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. (ET) before hosting Grace College on Saturday, August 24 in the home opener at 4 pm (ET).
