PRESTONSBURG, Ky. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's golf team finished in third place at the Alice Lloyd Fall Invite while four Pomeroys were able to record Top 20 finishes at the event.
Pikeville won the event with a two-day score of 585 while their 'B" team was second at 606. For the Pomeroys, the men fired a second round of 305 after an opener of 310 for a two-day total of 615 which is good enough for third place. SMWC edged out Thomas More's two-day score of 617 as they finished in fourth place.
In a tie for 17th place individually was
Justin Hopkins and Chase Nukols who posted two-day scores of 155. For Hopkins, he followed up an opening round of 77 with a 78 on Tuesday while Nukols carded a 75 on Monday and a second round score of 80.
Colby Beckwith and
Brevin Cooper each posted totals of 156 as Beckwith fired a second round score of 77 after an opener of 79 while Cooper's second round of 77 also followed a 79 as the duo tied for 19th place.
Hunter Martin showed marked improvement in the span of 24 hours with an opening round of 84 followed by a 73 on Tuesday for a total of 157 which was tied for 23rd place.
Grant Schlue tied for 28th place with rounds of 80 and 79 for a total of 159.
The Pomeroys will travel to Silvis, Ill., for the NAIA Midwest Invitational on September 23 and 24.
