Jeremiah Tosky Throws 5 Touchdown Passes As Pomeroys Win At Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. -- Jeremiah Tosky threw for five touchdown passes and once again a strong second half performances led the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College sprint football team with a 48-26 win at Quincy on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 21) .

The Pomeroys improved to 2-0 on the season and will enjoy the bye week next Saturday while Quincy fell to 0-2.

Tosky was 26-of-42 passing for 348 yards and five touchdowns as the Pomeroys overcame an early deficit to cruise to victory late in the contest. Two receivers went over 100 yards receiving as reigning MSFL Special Teams Player of the Week Marques Reese caught eight passes for 134 yards while Devron Johnson hauled in seven receptions for 107 yards. On the ground, Derron Hazzard posted 16 rushes for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his own right.

Brandon Washington led the way with six total tackles while the Pomeroys added a pair of quarterback sacks and interceptions in the game.

Quincy raced out to a 13-0 advantage in the contest with the only score of the first half and came back with another to open the second quarter. With 9:11 remaining in the first half, Hazzard raced to pay dirt to make it 13-6 with a 58-yard scamper. With 2:14 left before the break, Johnson brought in a 28-yard reception off the arm of Tosky to knot the contest at 13. The Hawks would surge ahead by a score but the Pomeroys answered with Tosky's second TD pass of the game on a 48-yard scoring strike to Reese to knot the scoer at 20 at the break.

Tosky to Johnson for a 4-yard scoring strike opened the scoring in the second half to cap an 11-play drive to push the Pomeroys ahead 27-20. With 5:05 left in the third stanza, Corbyn Cleveland was the beneficary of Tosky's fourth touchdown toss -- this time a six-yard strike to stretch the advantage out to 34-20.

Quincy would reach the end zone near the end of the third quarter, but the Pomeroy machine kept rolling with a six-yard scoring run from Hazzard with 11:21 on the clock to stretch the cushion out to 41-26. Tosky found Kyle Vernelson on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 7:12 on the clock to give the Pomeroys the 48-26 victory.

SMWC will host Oakland City who picked up a 14-0 victory over Midway (Ky.) today in Evansville on Saturday, October 5 at 3 p.m. (ET) in the annual Homecoming contest at Jay Barrett Field.
