The SMWC Equestrian Team competed this weekend at the Henry County Saddle Club, in New Castle, Indiana. The show was hosted by Purdue University, with SMWC, University of Illinois, Indiana University, and Taylor University in attendance.
After the first weekend of Western competition, the Pomeroy's spent time focusing on how to turn good rides into excellent ones. That focus paid off when SMWC walked away with High Point Team honors both days. Saturday, the team walked away with 40 points- just two points shy of a perfect day; and Sunday, the team put 36 points on the board. This sets the team up comfortably in the region, leading the region standings with over 40 points.
The weekend was also full of individual accolades. Hope Gillaspie walked away with High Point Rider awards for both days of the show, and Kyley Pelfrey walked away Reserve High Point Rider for both days of the show. Many individuals qualified for regionals, including- Kyley Pelfrey in the Ranch Riding, Sarah Tangen in the Rookie Horsemanship, Courtney Hamrick in the Rookie Horsemanship, and Anneliese Weilhammer in the Rookie Horsemanship.
The SMWC Western Equestrian Team will be back in action this weekend with the SMWC Homecoming Show. The show is scheduled to start at 9:00 am both Saturday 10/5, and Sunday 10/6.
