SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team returned to their winning ways with a perfect 3-0 sweep of visiting IU-Southeast inside the Knoerle Center on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28). SMWC remains perfect at home this season with a 9-0 record.
The Pomeroys improved to 18-3 on the season including a 2-3 mark in River States Conference play while IU-Southeast fell to 3-12, 2-2 RSC. Set scores in the match were 25-12, 25-15 and 25-23.
Alex Hernandez posted 10 kills to lead the team on 12 attempts for a sparkling hitting percentage of .833.
Karla Melendez added nine kills in the match while
Tori Schopmeyer added seven kills.
Aden Britt led the way with 18 set assists while
Alexis Keoho posted 11.
Grace Geisler recorded three of the Pomeroy's six service aces while
Jocelyn Chavez once again led the way with 10 digs.Â
Isabel Hansen was a force inside with four total blocks, including three of the solo variety and added seven kills on nine attempts for an attack percentage of .778. As a team, te Pomeroys recorded an attack percentage of .268 and limited IU-Southeast to a mark of just .075.
The Woods trailed 18-15 in the third set and called timeout to regroup. The got back-to-back kills from
Alex Hernandez to draw within a point at 18-17. A kill from
Grace Geisler drew the set level at 19. A Geisler kill and then her service ace answered an IU-Southeast score to push The Woods ahead 22-21. The Pomeroys took advantage of an IU-Southeast attack error and kill from Melendez finished off the set with a 25-23 victory and secured the match sweep.
SMWC will travel to Defiance College for a doubleheader on Friday, October 4 which begins at 4 pm (ET).
