SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team battled visiting Anderson (Ind.) to a 2-2 draw at the SMWC Soccer Complex on Wednesday night (Sept. 4).
The Pomeroys are now 1-2-1 on the season while Anderson moved to 1-0-1.
Kennedy Trigg got the scoring underway in the 28th minute when she was fouled in the box which drew the first penalty kick of the contest. Trigg addressed the ball and found the upper right hand portion of the net to stake the Pomeroys to a 1-0 advantage. That would be the only scoring of the contest in the opening half.
Anderson answered in the 66th minute with an equalizer goal and had the chance to take the lead with a penalty kick of their own but the attempt sailed wide left.
Claire Donald scored for SMWC in the 78th minute off the pass from
Kennedy Trigg who took a throw in from
Hannah Rogers to push SMWC ahead 2-1. But the lead would be short lived as Anderson scored in the 79th minute to knot the score at 2.
Yajaira Jimenez was in goal for the Pomeroys and allowed two goals against six shots in goal -- recording four saves. Â
SMWC recorded nine shots in the contest including six on frame. Trigg and
Lois Carr recorded a pair of shots each in the contest. In addition to the score, the two teams finished tied in shots on goal, corner kicks and fouls.
The Pomeroys return to action on Tuesday, September 17 when they will host Harris-Stowe at 3:30 p.m. (ET) at the SMWC Soccer Complex. This match begins a five-match homestand which will extend throughout the month of September.
