ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team fell late to Siena Heights (Mich.) on Thursday (Sept. 5) evening by the score of 2-1.
SMWC falls to 1-4-0 while Siena Heights improved to 1-3.
Ivan Gelado got the Pomeroys on the board early in the fifth minute when he scored his second goal of the season to stake SMWC to a 1-0 advantage. The goal came off the assist from
Marc Valderrama who posted his second assist of the season.
The lead would hold through halftime and all the way to the waning moments of the contest.  Christian Orta scored for Siena Heights in the 77th minute to knot the score at 1 and they took the lead in the 83rd minute with a goal from Samuel Fernandez for the 2-1 lead.
The Pomeroys got three great scoring chances in the final minutes of the game including two headers off throw ins which were saved at the last moment that would have tied the match.
Andoni Ybanez and Gelado each posted a pair of shots on goal in the match as part of seven looks at the frame they enjoyed in the contest. While Siena Heights had an 18-13 edge in shots, shots on goal were tied at 7.
Harry Jackson faced all seven shots on goal and recorded five saves in the game.
The Pomeroys return to action on Saturday, September 7 when they travel to Manchester (Ind.) for a 4 p.m. (ET) kickoff.
