Box Score NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team battled to a draw at halftime in their road match at Manchester (Ind.) but came roaring ahead late in the game with a trio of second half goals en route to a 3-0 road win on Saturday evening.
The Pomeroys improved to 2-4 on the season with the victory.
Jamie Gayol finally broke through with a goal in the 77th minute of what had been a scoreless tie to give the Pomeroys a 1-0 lead late in the contest. But SMWC was not done there as
Taiwo Anifowose pushed one into the back of the net in the 84th minute to give the Pomeroys a measure of insurance.
Marc Valderrama was credited with the assist on both goals.
Ivan Gelado then came right back with a goal in the 85th minute to stretch the advantage out to 3-0.
SMWC held a 15-1 edge in shots and a 7-1 cushion in shots on goal.
Harry Jackson produced his first clean sheet of the season with a save in the victory.
The Pomeroys will travel to the University of St. Francis (Ind.) for a Noon (ET) matchup on Saturday, September 14.
