SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over visiting Franklin College on Friday evening at the Knoerle Center. With the win, the Pomeroys improved to 2-0 on the season.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods took control early, winning the first set 25-20, before capturing the second set 25-18 and closing the match with a decisive 25-16 third-set victory. The Pomeroys' well-rounded effort was evident, as they posted an impressive team attack percentage of .239 while limiting Franklin to just .039.
The match was highlighted by stellar performances from several Pomeroy players. Sophomore outside hitter
Ryan Banister led the way with six kills and a .308 hitting percentage, while senior
Kristofers Klavins set up the offense with 24 assists and contributed two kills in the win. Junior
Noah Boyett also added six kills and a .400 attack percentage, and libero
Trevin Matsuba led the defense with nine digs.
Franklin College was paced by senior Jonathan McCoy, who posted 11 kills, and sophomore setter Tiki Johnson, who contributed 16 assists. However, the Grizzlies struggled to find consistent offense throughout the match, with a team hitting percentage of just .039.
