SMWC Men's Volleyball Earns Sweep Over Kentucky State In Season Opener

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team opened their season with a commanding 3-0 sweep over Kentucky State University on Friday afternoon (Jan. 24). The match, played at the Knoerle Center, saw the Pomeroys dominate in all three sets, securing a 25-7, 25-18, 25-13 victory.

The Pomeroys' offense was led by junior outside hitter Andrej Lindner, who posted an impressive six kills on 16 attempts, contributing 7.5 points to the team's total. Alongside him, Josh Stembridge contributed seven kills and eight points, showcasing his offensive prowess.

Ryan Banister added solid support, tallying a pair of kills and three points, while libero Gerardo Sanchez excelled in defense with nine digs. On the serving front, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College capitalized on Kentucky State's errors, registering 12 aces in the match.

Kentucky State fought hard but struggled to match the Pomeroys' intensity. Jamal Gray led KSU with seven points, including three aces, while Kolden Okin added 5.5 points with four kills and three digs. Despite their efforts, the Thorobreds were unable to get past SMWC's defense and offensive rhythm.

The Pomeroys were dominant at the net, recording two blocks and 26 digs in total while limiting Kentucky State to a -.059 hitting percentage.
