Saint Mary-of-the-Woods men's basketball opens its home schedule Thursday against Simmons College (Ky.), looking to improve to 3-0. The men's game is slated for 7 p.m. in Knoerle Center following the SMWC women's game against Simmons College.
The Pomeroys feature a talented influx of transfer players this season under first-year coach Mike Hunter. One of those is a player looking to continue his college career in the county he grew up honing his skills on the basketball floor.
Braden Edington (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) scored four points in his SMWC debut at Simmons College last Thursday and five points in the Pomeroys' 97-93 win at Great Lakes Christian on Saturday.
Edington likes what he's seen from he and his teammates in the early going to start the season.
"We're executing our plays very well right now," Edington said. "We're being aggressive and physical with the other teams. We've done nothing but support one another."
Edington connected on 23 3-pointers last season in 26 games for Illinois Valley Community College and hopes to provide a strong outside shooting threat off the bench for SMWC.
"I'm very excited to be back here. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else than Saint Mary-of-the-Woods," he said. "I've worked a lot on my shooting the last couple years and that's what I can bring to the table for this team. It's a completely different environment here."
