Thomas Chapman Finishes Second To Pace Pomeroy Cross County

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's cross country teams participated in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge earlier today (Oct. 26) at Riverside Park located in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Pomeroy women finished 13th while the men's team was 16th.

The men participated in an 8K race while the women covered the 5K course.

Thomas Chapman finished second in the men's race to pace SMWC with a time of 25:23. Jonathan Hayden tallied a 55th place finish as he cross the line in 27:19. Alec Smith was 134th in a time of 28:50. Ethan Dehamer registered a 165th place finish with a time of 29:34. Nathan McIntryre finished 185th in a time of 30:24. 

Overall, SMWC finished in 16th place with 407 points while Indiana Wesleyan won the event with a score of 25.

Quinlan Teague was the top finisher for the women with a 38th place finish in a time of 20:18. Brinlee McCloud was 71st in a time of 21:15. Mercedes Schemmel was right behind in 75th place with a mark of 21:27. Paige Chickadaunce finished in 107th place as she covered the course in a time of 22:06. Deborah Murphy posted a time of 22:11 to finish in 108th.
Clara Westcott posted a time of 24:23 to finish in 152nd place while Emma Lynch was 157th with a time of 24:45.

SMWC will travel to the River States Conference Championship on Saturday, November 9 in Evansville, Ind.
