EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's cross country teams capped a successful regular season with a pair of sixth place finishes at the 2024 River States Conference Championships on Saturday (Nov. 9) at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course.
The men's race covered the 8k course while the women's race was contested over a 6k course.
Thomas Chapman was the top finisher for the men's team with a time of 25:20 en route to a ninth place finish and a spot on the all-conference team.
Quinlan Teague finished 14th in a time of 24:47 for a 14th place finish and she also was an all-conference selection.
The men's race was won by Shawnee State while IU-East captured the women's crown. On the men's side the Pomeroys finished sixth with 197 points to defeat West Virginia Tech, Oakland City, Brescia, IU-Columbus and Alice Lloyd. The women's team was also sixth with 160 points to take down IU-Columbus, Brescia, West Virginia Tech, Oakland City and Alice Lloyd.
Brinlee McCloud posted a 30th place finish in a time of 26:13 while
Mercedes Schemmel was 35th in a time of 26:45. Paige Chickadaunce covered the course in a time of 27:24 to finish in 41st place.
Deborah Murphy posted a time of 28:26 for a 51st place finish.
Hannah Wright posted a time of 28:46 for a spot in 53rd place while
Gwen Garman finished in 29:26 to finish in 56th place.
Clara Westcott and
Emma Lynch owned times of 30:33 to finish and 61st and 62nd place respectively.
For the men,
Jonathan Hayden posted a time of 28:00 flat to finish in 37th place.
Alec Smith tallied a time of 29:39 for a 64th place finish.
Ethan DeHamer posted a time of 31:29 to finish in 87th place while
Nathan McIntyre was 91st in a time of 32:11.Â
The Pomeroys will wait for the NAIA to release its selections for the NAIA National Championship meet on Monday, November 11 at 7 pm (ET).
