PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Both the St. Mary-of-the-Woods men's and women's track & field teams posted eighth place finishes at 2024 River States Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Point Park.
On the women's side, Point Park won the team title followed by IU-Kokomo, Brescia (Ky.), Rio Grande, Shawnee State, IU-East and Midway (Ky.). In eighth place was SMWC with 45 points who defeated, Ohio Christian, Oakland City, West Virginia Tech and Alice Lloyd.
Savannah Lewis highlighted the second day with a River States Conference Championship on the track in the women's 100 meter finals as she recorded a time of 12.16 seconds and scored 10 points for the Pomeroys. The time is a school record and personal best. Jaci Stone was seventh in the event with a time of 12.6 seconds.
Lewis went on to finish sixth place in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 26.27. In the women's 5,000 meter run Quinlan Teague was seventh in a time of 20:09.63 just one day after scoring a point in the 10,000 meter run. Evelyn Morales finished as runner up in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.64 to score eight points for the Pomeroys.
In the relays, the team of Stone, Lewis, Diamond Bryant and Hope McGuire placed second in the 4 x 100 relay to score eight points with a time of 49.29 seconds. The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Morales, Brooklyn Deck, Bryant and McGuire was eighth to pick up a point in a time of 4:27.51.
DAY 1 RECAP:
Krislynn Bailey – a native of Terre Haute – secured a runner-up finish with eight points scored in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.55 meters (11-7.75). She has already qualified for the NAIA Nationals in May. Alyssa Winterstein picked up two points for the Pomeroys with a mark of 2.55 meters (8-4.25) and a seventh place finish.
In the women's 100 meter dash, the Pomeroys picked up a pair of qualifiers for Friday's finals as Savannah Lewis was third in a time of 12.76 while Jaci Stone was sixth in a time of 12.86 seconds. Lewis also moved on in the women's 200 meters with a time of 26.31 seconds which was good enough for third place on day 1.
In the women's 10,000 meters Quinlan Teague scored a point for SMWC with a time of 42:03.08.
NAIA Nationals Qualfiers:
The Woods will be represented at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships by Krislynn Bailey in the Women's Pole Vault on May 22 while Javian Edwards has qualified for the Men's Long Jump and will compete on May 24.
