Evelyn Morales Leads Pomeroys To Third Place Finish At RHIT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's track and field team competed on Friday evening (Jan. 24) on the campus of Rose-Hulman in the Friday Night Spikes Event.

The SMWC women's team finished third with a team score of 37 while Rose-Hulman was victorious with a team score of 68.

Jaci Stone continued her strong start to the indoor campaign with a win in the women's long jump with an effort of 4.77 meters (15-7.75). Joslyn Young recorded a third place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters (4-8.25). 

Evelyn Morales recorded a triple jump mark of 9.61 meters (31-6.5) to finish in second place in the event. Morales was the winner in the high jump with a leap of 1.48 meters (4-10.25). In the 60 meter hurdles, Morales won the event with a time of 10.13 seconds — a new season best. The Pomeroys also finished third in the event behind the effort of Joslyn Young who recorded a time of 10.33 seconds while Genesis Boyd was fourth in a time of 10.69 seconds. Morales also was second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.83 while Young's time of 1:05.70 was third. Additionally, Hope McGuire was sixth in a time of 1:06.34. 

McGuire would go on to run a time of 8.21 seconds for a third place finish in the 60 meter dash while Stone's time of 8.23 seconds was fourth. McGuire also finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.39 seconds. Stone's mark of 28.44 seconds was seventh.

Quinlan Teague raced to a fourth place finish in the mile with a time of 5:44.64 while Brinlee McCloud finished eighth in a time of 6:15.09. 

McCloud was the Pomeroy's top finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:45.29 while Chloe Field was seventh in a time of 2:46.02. 

IndiAnn Nichols recorded a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.87 meters (35-8) — a new personal best for the freshman from Terre Haute. Callee Riggle was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 9.80 meters (32-2). Riggle finished fifth in the weight throw with a personal best of 11.88 meters (38-11.75) while Nichols was eighth with a personal best of 10.65 meters (34-11.25).

Payton Smith was fifth in the pole vault 2.05 meters (6-8.75).

The Pomeroys will return to the next edition of the RHIT Friday Night Spikes meet on January 31 which begins at 6 pm (ET).
