Pair of Second Half Goals Propels Pomeroys Over Anderson

Box Score

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. - The SMWC soccer team hosted the Ravens of Anderson University on Saturday afternoon.  The Ravens played a gritty possession game and challenged early, but SMWC took control of the match in the second half and took away a 2-0 victory.

Possession in the first ten minutes was tough to keep, with both teams getting into the attacking third without being dangerous.  As the half wore on, the Pomeroys started to piece together some solid possession and took a hefty edge in attacks by halftime, though neither team had scored.

The second half saw the Pomeroys continue to press their advantage in the attacking third, with some good combination play near goal.  In the 56th minute, the game was broken open as Amanda Loebker put a beautifully timed through pass onto Kylee White's run, who took it straight at the keeper and finished it in the bottom right corner.  The Pomeroys struck again only two and a half minutes later, as Samantha Morrison unleashed a cracking shot at the high left side of the goal.  Raven keeper Chelsi Griffin made a fine diving save, but could only knock it away and it fell to Amanda Loebker, who drove it home for her seventh goal of the season. Georgie Macy recorded her second shutout of the season in goal.

The Pomeroys improve their record to 2-1 and will face Brescia University at home on Tuesday, September 17.  Game time is set for a 5 p.m. start.
