Box Score ANDERSON, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College soccer team fell to Anderson University on Saturday, 2-1.
The Pomeroys got off to a fast start on Saturday, as junior Amanda Loebker found the back of the net just five minutes into the match. While SMWC struck first to take the 1-0 lead, AU wasn't far behind, as they tallied a goal of their own in the 11th minute.
After AU's goal, both sides buckled down and went into the break knotted up at 1-1. In the first 45 minutes of play, SMWC tallied three shots and Anderson recorded seven. Sophomore Georgie Macy, who went the full 90 minutes in goal, made all three of her saves in the first half.
In the second half, the Pomeroys and Ravens continued to go back and forth with SMWC outshooting AU 6-5 in the final 45 minutes of play. AU, however, notched the go ahead goal at the 76:49 mark, which handed SMWC the 2-1 loss on Saturday in Anderson.
Loebker led the Pomeroys with seven of the team's nine shots and had all five of SMWC's shots on goal.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on October 1, when they face crosstown rival Rose-Hulman in a 7 p.m. start.
