Pomeroys Go 1-1 at Brescia Tri-Match

BRESCIA, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend at Brescia University. The eighth ranked Pomeroys defeated the USCAA's sixth ranked team Carlow, 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23), and fell to Brescia, 0-3 (17-25, 21-25, 22-25). The Pomeroys are now 11-9 on the year and 6-1 against USCAA opponents.

Freshman McKenzi Kumpf led SMWC's attack against Carlow with 12 kills, while fellow freshmen Autum Loughead and Gabriella Slagle each added nine kills. Loughead recorded a .692 attack percentage with nine kills and zero errors on 13 attempts. Freshman Mary Alvanos recorded 33 assists, while three players recorded double-digit digs. Freshman Madeline Howes led SMWC with 15 digs with juniors Jessica Coombs and Brylie Riddell adding 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Against Brescia, Kumpf and Slagle led SMWC in kills with nine each. Alvanos recorded 26 assists, while Howes and Riddell recorded 17 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on October 13 when they host the NAIA's third ranked team Missouri Baptist. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
