Box Score SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team defeated Oakland City at homecoming on Saturday, 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17).
The Pomeroys' attack was dominating throughout the four set match, with SMWC recording a team attack percentage of .271. Leading the way for SMWC were sophomores McKenzi Kumpf and Gabriella Slagle, who recorded double-doubles with 18 and 17 kills and 15 and 12 digs respectively. Slagle finished the day with a .289 attack percentage. Sophomore Mary Alvanos recorded 45 assists, while junior Madeline Howes recorded 28 digs. Sophomore Monica Mack was big at the net on Saturday as well as she recorded seven block assists and one solo block.
The Pomeroys came out in front of a large homecoming crowd on Saturday and did not disappoint, as they took care of OCU with relative ease in the first two sets. Set three saw the Pomeroys down 21-11 before they rallied back with freshman Meagan White and Slagle serving to fall just short, 21-25. They carried their late third set momentum into the fourth and downed the Mighty Oaks 25-17 to improve to 4-13 on the year.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on October 5 when they host Marian at 7 p.m.
