Box Score

SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team fell to Cincinnati Christian in a match that went right down to the wire on Saturday at the SMWC Soccer Field. The Pomeroys fell to the Eagles, 2-1, and now sit at 1-5 on the year.

The Eagles got on the board first in the eighth minute and then the Pomeroys' defense buckled down and didn't allow another goal in the first half. It was the Pomeroys who struck next, tallying a goal in the 58th minute via freshman Ashley Jezik who played a ball from junior Yadira Castellanos to knot the match up at 1-1.

With both sides getting shots off in the final 32 minutes, it was the Eagles who broke through and scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute. The Pomeroys again showed their toughness though, as they battled to the final whistle defensively and offensively.

Freshman Mannah Mace made a total of nine saves in the match, while SMWC's offense recorded 10 shots compared to CCU's 18.

The Pomeroys will be back in action on September 21 when they head to USCAA foe Illinois Tech for a 7 p.m. match.
