Box Score 2 LINCOLN, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) volleyball team (4-1) defeated Lincoln College (0-1) Thursday night for their 3rd straight victory and move to 4-1 on the season. The Pomeroys pulled out a close win () against a very good team last year. The 2019-20 A.I.I Volleyball Champion Lynx kept each set they lost to within three points, but SMWC was able to hold on each time for the victory. SMWC was led by Mandi Alspach and Jaelyn Fennell with 15 kills apiece.
The Highlights
- The Pomeroys went on a 10-2 run early in the 1st set to jump out to a quick lead. LC would claw their way back but SMWC was able to hang on for 1-0 lead.
- SMWC would quickly find themselves in trouble in the 2nd set as a string of attack and set errors would send the Lynx on a 6-1 run. The Pomeroys drop set two 13-25.
- Despite being down 5-12 in the 3rd set, top scorers Jaelyn Fennell and Mandi Alspach would go on a run to keep the Pomeroys close. A big kill by Fennell and a service ace would wrap up the 3rd set and give SMWC the lead once again.
- An extremely close set, SMWC would fall behind 21-23 after having a 20-18 lead. Two attack errors by LC and kills from Alspach and Fennell would wrap up the match and give the Pomeroys their 3rd straight win.
