INDIANAPOLIS -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a successful showing in their indoor season debut today (Dec. 7) at the Scott Fangman Invitational hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
For the men, freshman Na'Sier Samuel enjoyed a big collegiate debut as the Savannah, Ga., native won the 400 meter run in a time of 52.32 seconds — the third-best showing in Pomeroy history. He was fifth in the 200 meter dash with a school record time of 23.22 seconds.
Darrius Megnin posted a time of 8.91 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles which is also a new school record and good enough for sixth place in the event. Megnin raced to a time of 54.01 seconds and a sixth place finish in the 400 meters.
Ethan DeHamer won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:17.40 while
Evan Polley was second in a time of 2:20.41. The 4x 400 relay team of Christian Woodward, Megnin, DeHamer and Samuel raced to a time of 3:46.71 which was fourth.
Abbott Church posted a mark of 1.73 meters (5-8) in the high jump for a ninth place finish while he was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.85 meters (38-10.5). Jaryn Patterson posted a height of 3.43 meters (11-3) in the pole jump which is a new personal best and the third-best ever at SMWC.
In the weight throw, Tristin Benskin posted a distance of 13.42 meters (44-0) which was ninth in the loaded field. Benskin also competed in the shot put where he finished in seventh place with a mark of 14.20 meters (46-7).
For the women,
Hannah Wright took fourth place in the mile run with a time of 6:52.36. Brooklynn Deck put together a time of 8.20 seconds in the 60 meter dash for an eighth place finish.
In the 800 meter run,
Chloe Field posted a time of 2:42.01 for third while
Brinlee McCloud was fourth in 2:42.33.
Gwen Garman's time of 2:42.61 was fifth.
Quinlan Teague — off an All-River States Conference performance this fall in cross country — finished fourth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:31.53. The 4 x 400 relay team of Deck, McCloud, Garman and
Evelyn Morales finish fourth with a time of 4:33.62.
In the long jump,
Jaci Stone finished sixth with a mark fo 4.48 meters (14-8.5) and
Lauren Majors was ninth at 4.30 meters (14-1.25).
Callee Riggle finished 10
th in the shot put with a mark of 10.02 meters (32-10.5).
The Pomeroys will return to UIndy on Saturday, January 18 when they take part in the Hoosier Horsepower Classic beginning at 10:30 a.m. (ET).
