Jerahmia Smith Records NAIA 'B' Standard In Shot Put At Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams put together many solid performances at the Rose-Hulman Friday Night Spikes #3 event on Friday night (Jan. 31).

MEN'S RECAP

Jerahmia Smith led the Pomeroy domination in the shot put with a school record throw of 16.14 meters (52-11.5) which is a personal best and the 10th-best mark in the NAIA this season. Additionally. Smith hit the NAIA "B" Standard towards qualification for the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Tristin Benskin was third in the event with a throw of 14.39 meters (47-2.5) while Eli Cox was eighth with a mark of 12.39 meters (40-7.75). 

Benskin went on a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 13.81 meters (45-3.75). 

Thomas Chapman won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:29.04 which is the 67th fastest time recorded in the event NAIA this season. 

Freshman Na'Sier Samuel was fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.95 seconds. He would go on to a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.06 seconds. 

In the 4 x 200 meter relay, the team of Bowe, DeHamer, Polley and Russell recorded a time of 1:41.46 and they finished fourth. Devon Bowe recorded a personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.34 seconds. Darrius Megnin was ninth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.89 seconds. 

Corbyn Cleveland finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.15 meters (20-2.25). Cleveland went on to a triple jump of 12.18 meters (39-11.5) which was also fifth. Abbott Church was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 12.07 meters (39-7.25). In the high jump, Church finished fifth with a mark of 1.85 meters (6-0.75). 

Jaryn Patterson recorded a mark of 3.75 meters (12-3.5) in the pole vault to set a new personal best and record a 13th place finish. That is also a new school record for SMWC in the event. 

The men's meet concluded with the 4 x 400 relay team where Megnin, Woodard, Patterson and Samuel finished in a time of 3:43.90 and a 10th place finish.

WOMEN'S RECAP

Quinlan Teague recorded an impressive fourth place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:37.50 which is a new personal best in the event. It is also the 88th-best mark in the NAIA this indoor season.

Joslyn Young recorded an 11th place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.09. Hope McGuire was third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.05 seconds — a new season-best. In the 60 meter hurdles, Genesis Boyd was 12th but recorded a time of 10.57 seconds which is a new personal best. McGuire would go on to an 11th place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.03 seconds — a new season-best in the event.

IndiAnn Nichols finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 11.28 meters (37-0.25) — a personal best and the fifth best in program history. Callee Riggle was eighth in the event with a throw of 10.39 meters (34-1.25). Riggle went on to a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 12.35 meters (40-6.25). 

Evelyn Morales was eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters (4-8.25). In the long jump, Payton Smith recorded a distance of 4.58 meters (15-0.5) which is a new personal best and good enough for a ninth place finish. Morales recorded a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 9.13 meters (29-11.5). Smith would also record a personal best and fifth-best mark in school history in the pole vault with a leap of 2.17 meters (7-1.5).

The meet wrapped in the 4 x 400 relay with the Pomeroys recording a time of 4:26.73 which is the fourth-best in school history. The team of McGuire, Young, Field and Morales raced to a 10th place finish in the event. It was a season-best time and the 71st best mark in NAIA this season.

The Pomeroys will travel to the River States Conference Indoor Championships on February 14-15 in Marietta, Ohio.
