INDIANAPOLIS -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's and women's track and field teams returned to action this afternoon (Jan. 17) at the Gerry England Invitational on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
The men's track and field team will return to action on January 18 when a small group of athletes will travel back to Indianapolis for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic — also hosted by UIndy. The Pomeroys will then travel to Rose-Hulman for the Friday Night Spikes Series on each of the next two Friday nights at 6 pm (ET).
Abbott Church continued his strong start to the winter campaign with a win in the men's triple jump. His mark of 12.08 meters (39-7.5) finished just ahead of a pair of fellow River States Conference competitors from Brescia. Chruch went on to finish fifth in the high jump as he cleared a height of 1.70 meters (5-7).
Jonathan Hayden came in fourth place in the men's 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:33.22.
Jaryn Patterson finished fifth in the men's pole vault as he cleared 3.43 meters (11-3).
Eli Cox competed in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.29 meters (46-10.5).
MiRon Sparks posted an eighth place finish with a mark of 5.54 meters (18-2) in the men's long jump.
Devon Bowe's time of 7.35 seconds in the 60 meter dash was the Pomeroys top time as he finished in 16
th place.
Evan Polley tallied a time of 57.30 seconds in the 400 meter run for a 10th place finish. Bowe went on to finish 15
th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.33 seconds.
