TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's track and field team competed on Friday evening (Jan. 24) on the campus of Rose-Hulman in the Friday Night Spikes Event.
The Pomeroys finished third in the meet with a team score of 25 points. Host Rose-Hulman won with 51 points.
Darrius Megnin raced to a school record and a win in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds — a new personal best.
Christian Woodard recorded a sixth place finish in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.5 seconds.
Jerahmia Smith and Tristin Benskin went 1-2 in the men's shot put. Smith won the event with a distance of 15.30 meters (52-2.5) while Benskin was second with a throw of 14.19 meters (46-6.75). Smith's throw is the new SMWC school record in the event. Benskin's mark of 12.43 meters (40.9-5) was 10
th in the weight throw.
Thomas Chapman won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:54.99 while
Jonathan Hayden was 10th in a time of 9:27.09.
Freshman Na'Sier Samuel was second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.10 seconds. He went on to record a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.05 seconds.
Christian Woodard was sixth in the event with a mark of 23.79 seconds.
MiRon Starks recorded a mark of 5.70 meters (18-8.5) to pace the Pomeroys in the men's long jump.
Abbott Church was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.26 meters (40-2.75) — a personal best in the event. Church was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.70 meters (5-7).
Jaryn Patterson posted a ninth place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.60 meters (11-9.75).
The 4 x 400 relay team of Megnin, Polley, Patterson and DeHamer was fifth in a time of 3:40.63.
